Orlando's Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) is the first convention center in the US to earn International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2004 certification for its Environmental Management System. The Center:
Diverts 38% of all waste and 80% of dry waste from landfill through recycling and donation programs.
Operates two hydrogen shuttles for visitors, employees and tours.
Conserves water through low-flow faucets and using 100% reclaimed water for irrigation.
Is transferring to self-generated power through the installation of the largest solar power system in the southeastern US.
54 of Orlando's hotels are qualified under the Florida Green Lodging Program, with another 53 applying for status under the program. This program is a third-party, government verified program that ensures hotel properties meet minimum guidelines for sustainable practices. Orlando has one of the highest participation rates in a verified green lodging program in the country.
