Seattle is progressively tackling issues of climate change and transportation in city-wide initiatives to promote transit and reduce energy use through the innovative Seattle Climate Action Now Program. In addition while the city has grown 44% since 1980 water consumption has dropped by 23% during the same time frame due to conservation initiatives.
Seattle's Washington State Convention & Trade Center:
Purchases 68% of energy from renewable sources.
Regularly recycles 47% of waste, having earned Washington State Recycler of the Year Award.
Has adopted extensive energy and water conservation practices that include scheduled reduced lighting and HVAC and low-flow fixtures.
Donated 24,000 meals to charity in 2007.
Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau practices environmental responsibility in their daily operations and has an office green team. Staff are encouraged to reduce the impact of anything bought, sold or left behind as a result of their work.
